• Overview
Co-authored with Julia Gruen and Jeffrey Deitch and published by Rizzoli International in 2008, Keith Haring is the definitive monograph on the artist’s life and work. Drawing on more than a decade of close collaboration with the Keith Haring Estate, the book traces Haring’s emergence from the New York underground of the early 1980s through his rapid ascent as one of the most recognized artists of his generation. Encompassing his street work, public murals, studio practice, and activist commitments, the text situates Haring within the cultural and political landscape of his time while offering an intimate account of the artist’s vision and working method.

Keith Haring (1958–1990) was an American artist whose work responded to the energy of New York City street culture. Beginning with chalk drawings in the subway stations of Manhattan, he developed a visual language of bold lines and symbolic figures that became immediately recognizable worldwide. His work addressed themes of birth, death, sexuality, and the AIDS crisis, and he used his public platform to advocate for social change.
